Predicting the results of Clinical Trials with Amy Pomeroy PhD
Seminar Summary
A strong start to this year’s edition of the EDIT Summer Seminars (SumS) with a talk by Amy Pomeroy, PhD. Dr. Pomeroy is a postdoc at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her career working on systems biology and the modeling of morphogenesis, and has recently shifted her interest toward clinical trials, where she has contributed mathematical approaches that combine intra-tumor and intra-patient heterogeneity to predict survival curves.
During this edition of the EDIT SumS, Dr. Pomeroy presented her recent paper in Blood Cancer Discovery (see below), in which she developed a mathematical framework to predict the results of chemotherapy clinical trials. Her work demonstrates that there are diminishing returns in adding orthogonal drugs to chemotherapy schedules, and it predicted the success of the R-CHP plus polatuzumab vedotin trial nearly a year in advance.
Her talk offered a compelling example of how mathematical modeling can anticipate clinical outcomes and help guide the design of future trials, setting an inspiring tone for the rest of this year’s SumS series.
