Cycle 1 2016 Program Funding Announcements
(PFAs)
Improving Methods for Conducting
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research
This PFA seeks projects to address gaps in
methodological research relevant to conducting
patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR).
Communication and Dissemination Research
This PFA seeks to fund projects that address
critical knowledge gaps in the communication and
dissemination process - both the communication and
dissemination of research results to patients,
their caregivers, and clinicians, and the
communication between patients, caregivers, and
clinicians - in the service of enabling patients
and caregivers to make the best possible
decisions in choosing among available options
for care and treatment.
Improving Healthcare
Systems
This PFA seeks applications to study the
comparative clinical effectiveness of
alternative features of healthcare systems
(e.g., innovative technologies, incentive
structures, service designs) that are intended
to optimize the quality, outcomes, and
efficiency of care for patients and that have
the most potential for sustained impact and
replication within and across healthcare
systems.
Addressing
Disparities
This PFA seeks to fund comparative clinical
effectiveness research (CER) studies that
evaluate and compare interventions to reduce or
eliminate disparities in health and health care.
Studies in the Addressing Disparities Program
should focus on overcoming barriers that may
disproportionately affect the outcomes of
specific groups of patients or should identify
best practices for reducing disparities.
Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and
Treatment Options
This PFA is seeking applications for comparative clinical effectiveness
research (CER) designed to provide information
that would inform critical decisions that face
patients and caregivers, clinicians, policy
makers, and healthcare system leaders. The
premise of this research is that the new
knowledge will inform critical healthcare
choices by patients and stakeholders.

Funding Announcement: Dissemination and
Implementation of PCORI Funded Patient-Centered
Outcomes Research Results and Products in Real
World Settings
This PFA seeks to fund projects designed to actively disseminate and
implement the research results and products
using approaches that are informed and guided by
established dissemination and implementation
models and frameworks, in the context of real
world settings. Successful applications will
propose context appropriate strategies that
address how research results and products are
packaged, transmitted, interpreted, and

groups.
