Development of data and evidence needed to advance a Culture of Health.  Research could:

Ideal applications address significant health problems that affect children in large numbers and offer the potential for practical solutions to these problems.  Such solutions sh/be innovative and have potential for broad applicability w/low financial and/or technical barriers to implementation.  Hypothesis-driven research is preferred over exploratory, hypothesis-generating research. Projects with a shorter distance to clinical applicability are given priority.
Due Dates: Concept papers accepted on a rolling basis, and time from submission to decision is 1-6 weeks.  Submission of full proposal is allowed up to 1 year after approval of concept.  Review and response on proposal can take about 4 months.  Proposals and reviews are submitted to Committees at the beginning of February and August and final decisions are made in late Mar. and late Sept.

Precision Promise Clinical Trial Consortium

The mission of Precision Promise is to transform outcomes for all pancreatic cancer patients. Precision Promise has three components: a Coordinating Center, a Translational Research Grants Program and a Clinical Trial Consortium.  The overall goal is to improve treatment options and quality of life for cancer patients by funding clinical studies focused on prevention, detection, treatments and aftercare.  This award is the vehicle by which proactive investigators may focus directly on their cancer patients' clinical problems and deliver clinical treatments that may prove successful quickly.  Of particular interest are clinical investigators who:
1. Have outstanding clinical treatment ideas relevant to today's cancer patients w/direct, meaningful therapeutic impact for enrolled patients.
2. Are driven to deliver new and better treatment options for their patients today through clinical trial studies directly relevant to Rising Tide's Mission.
3. Have collaborated to design novel, new, or pilot projects distinctly removed from currently funded research projects.

Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research (CSER2) - Clinical Sites with Enhanced Diversity

The purpose is to establish Clinical Sites with Enhanced Diversity that collectively encompass a broad spectrum of healthcare settings and serve ancestrally and socioeconomically diverse patients with a wide range of clinical conditions, to: 1) define, generate and analyze evidence regarding the clinical utility of genome sequencing; 2) research critical interactions among patients, family members, health practitioners, and clinical laboratories that influence implementation of clinical genome sequencing; and 3) identify and address real-world barriers to integrating genomic, clinical, and healthcare utilization data within a healthcare system to build a shared evidence base for clinical decision-making. Applicants are expected to recruit a minimum of 60% of patients who come from racial or ethnic minority populations, underserved populations, or populations who experience poorer medical outcomes.  In contrast, applicants to the companion RFA HG-16-010 are expected to recruit a minimum of 25% of such patients.

Rare Population Malignancies Program

Moffitt has an agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) to fund Moffitt-initiated clinical trials within BMS's Rare Populations Malignancy Program (RPMP).   Three projects were selected during the first round last year and they are in the process of being set up.   Additional ideas are being solicited from Moffitt faculty for a second round of funding. There will be sufficient funds to support another 2-3 early phase trials as well as support for research time for the PI of the trial (5% effort/year for the trial PI).  There will be limited funding to generate pre-clinical data to justify the trial, and for correlative analyses of human tissue during the trial. In addition, BMS will perform specific PK and PD analyses at BMS when available.

Lymphoma Clinical Research Mentoring Program (LCrmp)  

This is an education and mentoring program for fellows and junior faculty with a focus in clinical research in the field of non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin lymphoma. The program offers a broad education on clinical research and career development as well as managing career and quality of life issues. Program goals include:
Provide mentoring and education to hematology/oncology fellows and junior faculty.
Assist in development of a specific clinical trial in patients with lymphoma and set foundation for grant development to support the trial.
Provide continuing training, career development advice, and mentorship among trainees and experts in the field and to foster future participation and collaboration within the LRF through follow-up programming and activities.
Amount & Project Period: $10,000 over 2 years to cover educational support such as tuition, registration fees, and travel for courses & meetings integral to the Career Development Plan, as well as supplies (such as computer hardware or software) or clinical trial expenses that will aid in professional development and/or project completion.
Eligibility: Must be a junior faculty member in the first 4 years of a faculty position or trainees in at least the second year of one of the following ACGME accredited sub-specialty fellowship programs: Hematology/Oncology, Hematology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or Hematopathology. Applicants should not be >4 years beyond completion of a fellowship or >12 years beyond completion of MD or equiv. degree.
