2012 October 29-31, Pathology Vision Conference, Baltimore, MA

Despite the weather interference that resulted in a couple of talks to be turned into webinars, where those speakers that could not make to Baltimore gave their presentation via the internet, the meating was exciting and show that digital pathology is a very much a vision that is happening already. Kasia Rejniak has presented a talk "Adding dynamics to pathology analysis: a computational modeling perspective."

2012 August 6-10, SIAM-LS, San Diego, CA, Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Sife Sciences section bi-annual conference.
minisymposium: "Mathematical Methods in Oncology: from Prognostic Screening to Therapeutic Treatment", organized by Kasia Rejniak.
This year, for the first time in its 6-year history, the SIAM-LS (the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Life Sciences activity group) bi-annual conference was organized as a stand-alone meeting not as a joint meeting with other math-bio societies or SIAM sections. This shows how much the community of mathematical biologist has grown over the past years. And the interest in modeling cancer-related phenomena has grown as well. Four different multi-part minisymposia have been presented this year, spanning 24 distinct talks and topics from Converging Clinical Oncology with Physical Sciences, to Cancer Modeling in Clinical Practice, to Mathematical Modeling and Simulations of Angiogenesis.

Moffitt has been represented by a two-part minisymposium organized by Kasia Rejniak that showcased several mathematical approaches directly addressing prognostic screening of tumors and various models of anticancer treatments. The models of several different tumor types (such as brain, breast, lung and prostate cancers) were discussed, as well as chemo-, radio- and immuno-therapies. Among eight presenters at this minisymposium were talks by three IMO members: MunJu Kim (top), Banu Baydil (bottom) and Kasia Rejniak (organizer).
