Replicability to Improve Substance Use Disorders
Treatment Outcomes
This FOA encourages applications that focus on
early-stage, treatment generation and pilot
clinical trials that are consistent with an
experimental therapeutic approach. This approach
requires the identification of a theory-derived
target based on putative mechanisms of alcohol,
tobacco and other drug use, and clear hypotheses
about how a treatment directed at changing the
target can lead to clinical benefits.

Genome Sequencing |
Investigator-Initiated Clinical Sequencing
Research
Research objectives are to stimulate innovation and advance understanding
of when, where and how best to implement
clinical genome sequencing. The FOA encourages
targeted scientific research studies focused on
advancing use of clinical genome sequencing in
genomic medicine, including, but not limited to,
studies of whether and how clinical genome
sequencing impacts disease diagnosis and
treatment, research to address current barriers
to implementation of clinical genome sequencing,
and approaches to improve identification and
interpretation of genomic variants in clinical
settings.

Focused Research Groups in the Mathematical
Sciences (FRGMS)
The purpose of this activity is to support collaborative groups employing
innovative methods to solve specific, major
research challenges in the mathematical
sciences. A major challenge is an outstanding
problem of significant importance that requires
the focused and synergistic efforts of a
collaborative group to solve, and whose solution
will have wide impacts in the mathematical
sciences and potentially in other areas. Risky
projects are welcome. Interdisciplinary projects
are welcome.

Biomedical Big Data |
Joint NSF/NIH Initiative on Quantitative
Approaches to Biomedical Big Data (QuBBD)
The National Science Foundation(NSF) and the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) recognize
that fundamental questions in basic, clinical,
and translational research could benefit greatly
from multidisciplinary approaches that involve
experts in quantitative disciplines such as
mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
This program is designed to support research
that addresses important application areas at
the intersection of the biomedical and data
sciences by encouraging inter- and
multi-disciplinary collaborations that focus on
innovative and transformative approaches to
address these challenges.

Linking the Provider Recommendation to
Adolescent HPV Vaccine Uptake
This FOA encourages research on how the
healthcare delivery system enhances or inhibits
the effectiveness of a provider's recommendation
of the adolescent human papillomavirus (HPV)
vaccine. Characteristics of the provider,
parent/patient, and clinical setting, can all
affect whether a provider makes a
recommendation, and whether that recommendation
results in uptake of the HPV vaccine. This
research requires expertise in cancer
prevention, adult and childhood behavior,
immunization promotion, and healthcare delivery.

NIH Director's Transformative Research
Awards
These awards support individual scientists or
groups of scientists proposing groundbreaking,
exceptionally innovative, original and/or
unconventional research with the potential to
create new scientific paradigms, establish
entirely new and improved clinical approaches,
or develop transformative technologies. Little
or no preliminary data are expected. Projects
must clearly demonstrate the potential to
produce a major impact in a broad area of
biomedical or behavioral research.
