Thrasher Research Fund
E.W. "Al" Thrasher Awards

Ideal applications address significant health problems that affect children in large numbers and offer the potential for practical solutions to these problems.  Such solutions sh/be innovative and have potential for broad applicability w/low financial and/or technical barriers to implementation.  Hypothesis-driven research is preferred over exploratory, hypothesis-generating research. Projects with a shorter distance to clinical applicability are given priority.
Due Dates: Concept papers accepted on a rolling basis, and time from submission to decision is 1-6 weeks.  Submission of full proposal is allowed up to 1 year after approval of concept.  Review and response on proposal can take about 4 months.  Proposals and reviews are submitted to Committees at the beginning of February and August and final decisions are made in late March and late September.  For a September decision, concept papers should be submitted in April to allow sufficient time for the process.
Amount & Project Period: Grant amount is based on the actual budgetary needs of the project - Up to 3 years

Idea Development Award

Will fund scientifically meritorious research focused on BMF syndromes. Investigator-initiated research is encouraged in the areas of congenital or acquired BMF.  Studies focused on BMF syndromes and their progression to other malignancies, such as leukemia, are acceptable.  However, research primarily focused on myeloproliferative neoplasms, leukemia, or other malignancies is discouraged. Stem cell biology studies and translational projects including bone marrow transplantation studies should be clearly related to BMF syndromes.

Clarification

NIH/NCI is currently accepting applications for P30 CURE Supplements during the submission period of February 1 - March 30, 2016.  This is the last submission period for P30 CURE Supplements.   All Cancer Centers are encouraged to apply.
The anticipated R25 YES FOA is expected to be published in the summer of 2016, with the first submission deadline in the fall of 2016.  All Cancer Centers, with or without active P30 CURE Supplements, are encouraged to apply.  
The anticipated R25 YES FOA does not affect currently active P30 CURE Supplements. All P30 CURE Supplements may continue until the originally awarded period finishes.  Cancer Centers with active P30 CURE Supplements are especially encouraged to apply for the anticipated R25 YES FOA in order to continue the P30 CURE programs.  If an application for a R25 YES is awarded while a P30 CURE Supplement is still active in the same institution, the P30 CURE Supplement will be terminated to allow the R25 award to be accepted.  Each institution may apply for more than one R25 YES grant, provided each R25 YES is distinct and unique.
