NCI has announced a Research Specialist Award in any area of cancer research.  This award is designed to encourage the development of stable research career opportunities for exceptional scientists who want to pursue research within the context of an existing cancer research program, but not serve as independent investigators.  These scientists, such as researchers within a research program, core facility managers, and data scientists, are vital to sustaining the biomedical research enterprise.

Amount & Project Period: Application budgets may request the following two expenses in direct costs per year:
1) up to 100% salary support (not to exceed the NIH Legislatively-mandated Salary Cap) for the Research Specialist and commensurate with their level of effort on NCI-funded research grants; and
2) travel costs to attend research meetings/conferences not to exceed $5,000 per year.
Eligibility: A Research Specialist must have:        
An advanced degree (e.g. Masters, PhD, DVM, DDS or MD) in an area of biomedical science or engineering.
Have demonstrated research accomplishments in their primary discipline.
At the time of award, the Research Specialist must have a full-time appointment at the academic or research institution.
The Research Specialist is required to commit a minimum of 50% of full-time professional effort (i.e., a minimum of 6 person-months) on NCI-funded research. The Research Specialist may engage in other duties as part of the remaining 50% of their full-time professional effort not covered by this award.
The Research Specialist should have demonstrated professional accomplishments consonant with his or her career status, and should have demonstrated cancer research experience in the areas of behavioral, biomedical (basic or clinical), computational or bioengineering research that is relevant to the NCI mission.
The award is intended for cancer research-oriented investigators with significant, relevant experience, who have shown clear evidence of productivity and research excellence in the field of their training, and who would like to support a cancer research program, with the goal of continuing to make significant contributions to cancer research in the areas of behavioral, biomedical (basic or clinical), computational or bioengineering research that is relevant to the NCI mission.

To support NCCN investigator initiated studies for the performance of preclinical, clinical, and correlative studies of afatinib containing combinations in the treatment of lung and head and neck cancers.   The motivation behind this RFP is to facilitate development of combination therapies using afatinib.  Towards this goal, several specific additional therapies may be available from collaborating pharmaceutical companies, and are detailed in the RFP, though investigations addressing any combination regimens will be considered.

Administrative Supplements to NIH Awards for Validation Studies of Analytical Methods for Natural Products

Support for formal validation studies and publication of relevant quantitative analytical chemistry methods.  Methods must have been developed or utilized in fulfillment of the active parent grant's specific aims.  The NCI Nutritional Science Research Group is particularly interested in validation of quantitative analytical methods for vitamins, minerals, amino acids, putative biologically active botanical constituents, and/or their metabolites, in human or animal specimens that may also be useful indicators of bioavailability, or of particular metabolic, epigenetic, or physiological states.

Eligibility: IMPORTANT: Research proposed in the supplement application must be w/in the original scope of the NIH-supported grant project.
Validation studies must be conducted in a laboratory that is a participating component of the parent award.  Except in the case of the second laboratory in a two-laboratory validation study, validation studies may not be sub-contracted to a commercial laboratory that was not a participant in the parent award.

Provides support and protected time to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in health services research.
