November 17 All Faculty Federal Co-Clinical Trials

Oncology Co-Clinical Imaging Research Resources to Encourage Consensus on Quantitative Imaging Methods and Precision Medicine

The purpose of this FOA is to develop research that will encourage a consensus on how Quantitative Imaging (QI) methods are optimized to improve correlation of results for co-clinical trials; defined as investigations in patients and in parallel (or sequentially) in mouse or human-in-mouse models of cancer that mirror the genetics and biology of the patients' malignancies or pre-cancerous lesions.

The scientific goals are to: (a) perform the appropriate optimization of the pre-clinical quantitative imaging methods, (b) implement the optimized methods in the co-clinical trial, and finally (c) populate a web-accessible research resource with all the data, methods, workflow documentation, and results collected from the co-clinical investigations.

Applicants are encouraged to organize multi-disciplinary teams with experience in mouse models research, human investigations, imaging platforms, QI methods, decision support software and informatics to populate the research resource.

To accelerate and enhance translational science by promoting partnerships between NIH intramural investigators (e.g., those conducting research w/in labs and clinics of the NIH) and extramural investigators.  NCI encourages bench-to-bedside research to: increase understanding of molecular and physiological basis of health and disease; stimulate clinical discoveries about mechanisms underlying disease to develop improved prevention, diagnosis, and treatment; enable translation of basic discoveries into clinical practice; foster training and mentoring of emerging scientists and physicians; and communicate research advances to public.
